Local MP asking followers to recognize ‘International Women’s Day’

Tuesday, March 8 is set aside for the purpose; use hashtag #YouAreEmpowerment

Marilyn Gladu, MP for Sarnia-Lambton, & Chair of the Parliamentary Status of Women Committee, is inviting Canadians to celebrate International Women’s Day 2016, set for this Tuesday, March 8.

“It is a time to celebrate women’s contributions to our communities, our country and our world,” said Gladu. “It is also a time to reflect on progress toward equality for women and to reflect on the significant challenges that remain.”

The theme for International Women’s Day 2016 is “Women’s Empowerment Leads to Equality.” Gladu said a need remains to empower women and girls as society works together to achieve gender parity.

“Without empowerment, there can be no equality,” said Gladu. “For our community and country to live up to its full potential, we must ensure equity for all – especially on gender issues. For women and girls, social empowerment is the key to tapping into our true potential.”

Gladu is specifically asking followers on social media to identify a woman/girl “who inspires you to live up to your own full potential.”

Please use the hashtag #YouAreEmpowerment.
