Esa Aukusti Ahopelto, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Bluewater Health at the age of 92. Esa was born in Finland on April 21, 1925. Esa is survived, and greatly missed by son Joe (Ruth) Ahopelto, Colorado; daughter Rita (Bob) Dennison, Michigan; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Aulikki, and brothers, Unto and Sake, all in Finland. Esa, a WWII veteran, was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eva; his parents, Lauri and Selma Ahopelto, Finland; brothers Alpo, Aimo, Aarto, Aito, Jorma, and Urpo; and sisters Anja, Aila, and Raili. He was also predeceased by a great-grandson Isaac MacLeod. While living in Sudbury, Esa worked in the mines. After moving to Wyoming, he farmed for many years and at the same time worked for various construction companies in Sarnia, and lastly at Allis Chalmers as a mechanic. On July 3, 1962, Esa was born again when he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was faithful to the believers who gather to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ at the Gospel Hall, Sarnia, and will be remembered for his steadfastness, generosity, his innovative mind, and his humor. A private funeral service will be held with interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sarnia. Arrangements entrusted to SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Sarnia.
