Entry is open to all artists residing in the areas between Sarnia, Windsor, Niagara Falls, Hamilton, Guelph and Owen Sound. All works must be original, completed in the last 12 months, and not previously shown in Lambton County.
"In addition to the traditional gallery spaces we are inviting submissions for a wall mural in the lecture theatre and an installation in the three alcoves located along the administration corridor," says Lisa Daniels, Curator of the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery. "With a stellar jury panel and substantial cash awards, we expect the show will showcase some of the very exciting art that is being produced in Lambton County and throughout southwestern Ontario."
Three jurors have been selected for the inaugural show: Ivan Jurakic, Director / Curator, University of Waterloo Art Gallery; John Kissick, Artist and Director, School of Fine Art and Music, College of Arts, University of Guelph; and Dolleen Manning, Artist and PhD Candidate, Centre for Theory and Criticism, University of Western Ontario.
Cash awards totalling $3,000 ($1,500 first prize; $1,000 second prize; $500 third prize) will be presented at the exhibition opening on Saturday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. and an artist fee will be paid to each artist selected for the exhibition.
A full colour exhibition catalogue will be produced for the exhibition with each accepted artist receiving a maximum of two reproductions, an artist statement, and web address. The exhibition will also be promoted through Akimbo, news releases, e-blasts, posters, and e-vites on the gallery's website and other social media platforms.
Entry deadlines of April 4 (Stage 1) and April 25 (Stage 2) have been set.
