Auditions for Lambton Young Theatre Players

Fall is in the air, and the Lambton Young Theatre Players are anxious to tread the boards once again! With three exciting programs in the works, the Players are bursting with energy and enthusiasm for Fall Drama Classes, Bad Guys in Boomtown – The Great Plank Road Heist, and auditions for a Christmas production of THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE.

Fall Drama Classes will be offered for Junior Players, between the ages of 8 and 12 years, with Bethany Lawrence as the instructor.

We had such a great turn-out in the summer for our Junior Players, that we decided to put together a fall program," says Lawrence. "We’ll be having fun with theatre games, improv, character and mask work, and we’re going to explore shadow play with the kids. The program is going to run for 8 weeks and will conclude with a presentation for family and friends. For kids who love to perform, this is going to be a great program, and loads of fun!"

Drama Classes for Young Players, also an 8 week program, for kids between the ages of 13 and 18 years, will focus on scene study for the young actor with Nancy Keys as the instructor.

"Scene study is a great way to develop as an actor," says Keys. "We’ll be looking at the physical and emotional life of a character, inner monologue, what intentions and relationships are, sub text, emotional beats and rhythm, and how to work with a director. This will be intensive and challenging, but very rewarding in developing an acting process."

Auditions for a Christmas production of THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE will be taking place Sept. 21st and 22nd. This program focuses on performance training in a professional and creative environment. Actors who are cast in the show will spend 8 weeks rehearsing 3 nights weekly, and will perform Nov. 22nd through 26th for a total of 9 performances including school matinees.

The creative team for THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE will include Nancy Keys (Director), Bethany Lawrence (Assistant Director), Tracy Phibbs (Set & Costume Designer), David Kent (Lighting Designer), Dan Nagle (Sound Designer), and Miranda Cole (Stage Manager).

"THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE is one of the best loved children’s stories," says Keys. "It’s a tale full of magic and fantasy,  children’s stories," says Keys. "It’s a tale full of magic and fantasy, adventure and drama, and wonderful characters, both good and evil. We’re really excited about producing the show, and the buzz is already out there.

But watch out for Bad Guys in Boomtown – The Great Plank Road Heist Oct. 27th and 28th at the Petrolia Discovery!
"Bad Guys in Boomtown is going to be a blast!" exclaims Keys. "It’s going to be an outdoor evening show at Petrolia Discovery complete with crazy oil drillers, a cantankerous school marm, high falootin’ Victorian ladies, righteous gentlemen, and the odd scoundrel, or two. It’s a mystery show with the audience participating in solving a crime.

There’s a lot of comedy and action involved, and the show is family oriented. The cast will be made up of Junior and Young Players, with a few Older Players too. We’re really happy to be working with Petrolia Discovery on this show, and hope to make it an annual event."
