The world is constantly changing. It is becoming more diverse and with that there is more acceptance among different races, sexualities, etc.
Northern Collegiate is certainly showing this acceptance by forming a LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) Club.
This club meets to discuss differences around the world and the challenges that come with being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
Just recently at the beginning of the school year, they set out to spread their diversity out amongst the school. As a symbol of differences and North America’s greater welcoming to all people coming “out of the closet” there has been a bright bench sat at the entrance of Northern’s library.
This bench, as you can see in the picture, is bright orange with a large peace sign in the middle. The goal is to spread the celebration of diversity. All over this bench, people have written messages, hopes and dreams about the changing world and how people need to become even more accepting of all sorts of sexualities.
Some of these inscriptions read, “Queer Acceptance,” “I need a hug,” and simply “Celebrate Diversity.”
The message is clearly made by a few simple words placed above the bench on the wall. These words are, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
The LGBT’s mission is clear. Be who you want to be and hope everyone can accept you for who you are.
