The 2012 United Way of Sarnia-Lambton campaign continues to plug along at what is now the halfway mark in the drive.
The progress so far this year with still two months left, is we have raised over $1.21 million of the $1.85 million goal, and we have heard that several of the campaigns from both large industry and other businesses is going well.
The storm last week slowed the momentum a little and forced the cancellation of a couple of our events even locally, largely because of unstable power, but the momentum is beginning to pick up again.
The major event happening this week is the Locally Lambton Dinner, and Norm Piquette, one of our sponsors, has just announced the 2012 Locally Lambton menu. Tickets are still available.
This year’s menu includes: Roasted Pork Loin with a hickory sauce, Turkey a la King, Roasted Red Pepper Chicken Breast, Greek Style Lamb, Boeuf a la Mode, Prima Vera, Baked Beans with Maple Syrup, Fall Harvest Vegetables, Red & White Oven Roasted Potatoes, Assorted Fresh Rolls, Bread & Butter, Fresh Market Greens with Garnishes & Assorted Dressings, Chicken Caesar Salad, Apple Pear Waldorf Salad, Spinach Salad, Coleslaw, Potato Salad, Seven Bean Medley, Marinated Mushrooms with Balsamic Vinaigrette
Broccoli, Cheddar, Cranberry and Bacon Salad, Tomato Harvest Vegetable Soup,Mini Perogies with Salsa and Sour Cream, Veggies and Dip, Assorted Domestic Cheese and Crackers, Devilled Eggs, Glazed Poached Trout, and for dessert, a 12 foot White Venetian Cream Cake – with logos of the sponsors and donating organizations.
This dinner really could not have happened if it weren’t for Norm Piquette of Normand Piquette Catering. We who him, and the other two sponsors, Libro Financial Group and the Lambton Federation of Agriculture, and all the donating businesses farmers, and organizations a big thank you. At this point it is looking like we will raise more than $10,000 from this event that will go directly into the campaign this year and then be allocated to over 35 programs and services throughout Lambton County.
We really have two objectives for this event; the first is to raise both money and awareness for the fall campaign, but also to promote what great food is available locally, right here in the Lambton County area. I think with Norm’s help, everybody will agree that the world’s best really is raised, grown, or produced right here.
As mentioned earlier, there are still tickets available for the dinner, and anybody interested in attending can do so by calling the United Way at 519 336-5452 ext. 0, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org Tickets are $45 each, or two for $85. The event will take place at the Dante Club in Sarnia on London Road in Sarnia on Wednesday, November 7, 2012.
