The strategic planning process will continue through March 2013, said CEO Sue Denomy. "The process will include review of the progress, opportunities and challenges at Bluewater Health, as well as the broad changes in healthcare in Ontario. This planning gives us an opportunity to carefully assess the priorities at the provincial and LHIN level and to examine the strategic initiatives required to advance our Mission.”
Since Bluewater Health’s last strategic plan (2009-2012), extraordinary pressure on the healthcare system has continued, including increased demand for services reflective of an aging population, new methods of care and treatment, and new models of care within ambulatory and community settings. The overall cost of the healthcare system continues to rise at a rate that outpaces growth in provincial revenue and inflation and hospitals must reconfigure spending.
At its August meeting, the Board of Directors endorsed the continuation of Bluewater Health’s current five strategic themes – Quality Care, Inspired People, Outstanding Performance, Exceptional Relationships and A Culture of Innovation. The strategic priorities supporting each of these themes will be re-examined in the coming months. The current Mission, Vision and Values will continue to guide the organization, and will not change during this strategic planning cycle.
The strategic planning process, led by the Governance and Nominating Committee of the Board, includes an internal steering committee which will invite input from a variety of internal and external stakeholders including medical and program leaders, Community and Rural Health Advisory Panel members, local health service providers and the public. Bluewater Health will reference such background materials as Ontario’s Action Plan for Health, Ontario LHINs’ Vision for Integration, ESC LHIN Strategic Directions, a market share review and environmental scan. The Board is confident that with this broad level of engagement, Bluewater Health will be well-positioned to deliver a ‘Strategy for Accelerating Exemplary Healthcare Experiences, Every Time’ through to 2015.
