Brother and sister nabbed in mall shoplifting incident

Sarnia Police say a brother and sister face charges of theft after a shoplifting incident in Lambton Mall that occurred Monday evening (April 28).

Around 7:30 p.m., police say a 19-year-old woman and her 18-year-old brother were seen entering a mall store and subsequently were observed concealing a number of clothing items without paying for them.

When the woman left the store, she was arrested by store security.

Police say the woman began yelling and her brother is alleged to have pushed the security officer, which allowed the woman (his sister) to leave.

Upon police arrival the brother was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000, Assault and Failing to Comply with a Probation Order. The sister was located and arrested just before 1:00 a.m. Wednesday (April 30). She will be charged with Theft Under $5,000 and Escape Lawful Custody.

Both people were released and will appear in court at a later date.
