Celebrate Family Day in the best way possible

family day picAs we enjoy the statutory holiday primarily designed to wedge an extra day off between New Year's and Good
Friday, Family Day in Ontario is doing exactly its intention.

But only if you actually do something with your family.

Thankfully there are options available to celebrate the day in style.

One is at the Judith and Norman Alix Art Gallery in downtown Sarnia, where Family Day programs take their influence from a new exhibition: M.C. Escher: The Mathemagician and Fluid Explorations.

Families can become a work of art with unique face painting designs by The Painted Cat, inspired by the prints of M.C. Escher.

In addition, participants can help create a collaborative mosaic activity using small coloured shapes. The mosaic will be photographed and transformed into an amazing stop-motion animation video at the end of the day.

At the YMCA Jerry McCaw Family Centre (1015 Finch Dr.),  free activities include a family Olympics, boot camp, Energy Zone family competitions, swimming, and facility tours every half hour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There's also a screening of the movie Kung Fu Panda.

The Moore Optimist Club is sponsoring free 10-pin bowling at the Airey Lanes in Courtright. Three complimentary sessions run at 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. For those who aren't the bowling type, a crafts session at the Courtright Community Centre includes a free lunch.

There is also a free Family Day skate (4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.) at the RBC Centre in Sarnia.

Enjoy! And Happy Family Day to all.
