Celebration of Lights set for ‘banner year’

After instances of vandalism (and a security firm coming to the rescue), Santa is soon to play a starring role on Dec. 22

One of Sarnia-Lambton’s longstanding seasonal traditions—the Celebration of Lights—began this year’s display with at least one instance of senseless vandalism (are there any other kinds?).

Then Hughes Intelligence Services and its owner Barry Bentley came to the rescue, providing overnight monitoring of the displays.

Now, as reported by Cathie Blake, chair of the Celebration of Lights organization, Santa himself will be making an appearance at the Christmas Village near the old McLean Centre in Centennial Park on Sunday, December 22 from 5:15 p.m. “until every child has had an opportunity to sit with Santa in his sleigh to hear their requests.”

Volunteers are being sought to help Santa for this event, says Blake.

She can be contacted by email or phone (519) 481-0134.
