Lighthouse Community Church, which meets both Saturday and Sunday at the corner of Parker Street and Nelson in Sarnia, is opening its doors for at least one more evening–starting this Friday (August 24)–with a project it's calling "Rooms."
The monthly project, billed as "an evening of inspiration, engagement and community," involves participants (all are welcome) choosing a room to participate in at the beginning of the evening.
"At the end of the night, we'll gather together in fellowship," says Natalie Rude, who is among those organizing the series.
At least four "rooms" are planned:
Bring something you've been working on (and the supplies you need to keep it going) to the "Open/Create" room.
Knitting? Painting? Sewing? Scrapbooking? Creating something? Organizers will have a communal space set up to support their creative togetherness/togetherness creating. Enjoy your craft with some company. Room to openly create in community.
Do you value written words, heard words, spoken words as well as maybe no words?
Our Listen/Speak rooom will have th space to both listen and speak as we'll begin with shared readings. Is there scripture that's been speaking to you? A poem? An essay? Thoughts on a book? Come with something to share.
Words are food for thought. Share your food with some company.
Later on in the evening, we'll create the space for quiet contemplation, meditation, journaling and other forms of silent spiritual disciplines.
Room to listen for God to speak.
Do you appreciate music, play music, create music or maybe just want to? Do you have the desire to learn a few chords? Need a brush up on your rhythm skills?
Bring your instrument of choice to the Music/Collective room, where we'll begin with an informal rhythm class.
After a few tips, choose to join in a jam session or just sit back and take it all in. See what happens as we create and practice music in a collective spirit.
All genres of music are most welcome to participate. Later on in the evening, musicians will have the opportunity to present their craft (as individuals or as small groups) with all the folks who are attending Rooms.
Free concerts! Room to create an express.
Do you like to eat? Love to cook? Die to bake?
Our Prepare/Feast room is in the kitchen! We'll be exploring the culinary arts as we seek to create and nourish, together.
This room will be rich with variety: Chef-hosted cooking classes, a recipe exchange, meals on the go, carnivores vs. vegetarians and the art of cake decorating.
Ever want to plan a seven-course meal for 10?
We'll explore whatever we want to when it comes to food in our kitchen. The sky is the limit. This month Ruth Drewitt will teach us to can salsa! Prepare to Feast! Room to create, nourish and feast together.
