Competitive lawn bowlers set to compete at Provincial Pairs Championship

Event, hosted by Sarnia club, being held on first weekend in July

Bowlers from across Ontario, including a pair from Sarnia, will be competing for the opportunity of being crowned the Ontario Pairs Lawn Bowling Champions at the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club on the first weekend of July.

Equal number of teams (16 men’s and 16 women’s) from across Ontario (64 bowlers) will meet in Sarnia for two days of competition in a sport which requires the perfect combination of accuracy and strategy. Rebecca McQueen and Debbie Archer of the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club will be representing District 2 at these championships.

The event will be held at the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club in Germain Park (off Bright Street) from July 1-3. A practice day and opening reception sponsored by Fairwinds Lodge will take place on Friday, July 1 with games being contested throughout the day on Sat. July 2 and Sun. July 3. An official opening ceremony is planned for 8 a.m. on July 2, with the first competition getting under way at 9 a.m. Spectators are welcome at no charge.

“The Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club has been hosting bowlers from across Canada for over 100 years and we are honoured to be hosting the Ontario Pairs Lawn Bowling Championships this year as part of our club’s 110th anniversary year. The greens are in prime condition and our host committee is extremely excited and ready to welcome the bowlers,” said Dave Moffitt, president of the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club.
