Five things to do

December has arrived and it is officially the beginning of the holiday season. The temperature is expected to be cool this weekend. Here are some great events that you don’t want to miss in Sarnia-Lambton this weekend.

Sarnia Kinsmen Christmas Parade of Lights

This Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. is the annual Christmas parade in Sarnia. The event, created by the Kinsmen Club of Sarnia 35 years ago, has become an annual event enjoyed by thousands of locals.  With over 60 floats, eight marching bands with some 100-150 marching members, the parade is one of the main events in the holiday season of Sarnia-Lambton.

Students from the Sarnia Christina School will again be accepting canned goods and cash donations during the parade for The Inn of the Good Shepherd. There is a guaranteed minimum of 500 lights in this nighttime parade. It is free to attend. For more information, please visit

After Parade Block Party

Stop by Lighthouse Community Church at the corner of Nelson and Parker Street for their event following the Sarnia Kinsmen Christmas Parade of Lights on Saturday. The church has been holding this “after parade” event for several years now. You’ll be able to warm up by the fire, enjoy hot dogs, hot chocolate and cookies.  The event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 152 Parker Street. First Friday at The Lawrence House

This Friday at The Lawrence House, celebrate First Friday with musician Colin Graf.  Graf will be performing a playlist of Christmas themed music from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.  The Canada 150 Banner, created by artist members of the Centre will be hanging up in the stairwell. The “Put a Bow on It” exhibition and sale opens in the main gallery and throughout the gift shop. The show has a variety of media: jewelry, paintings, pottery, textiles and much more!  It is a perfect opportunity to buy original handmade gifts for you or your loved ones. Christmas on the farm

This Friday, December 1st  (from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) and Saturday, December 2 (from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) is Christmas on the Farm at the Animal Farm at Canatara Park. The event will include horse and wagon rides, Christmas carol sing-alongs, maple syrup taffy, craft shops full of handmade creations and so much more. The Sadies at Paddy Flaherty’s
