At Vision Nursing Home on August 26, 2017, after a long and valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease, Ken passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus at the age of 81. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Ken was the beloved husband of the late Faye (2010) and the loving father of Kathy Fregin, Dianne Jansen and her husband Frits and Scott Fregin. Survived by his brother Ed (Mavis) Fregin, his sisters Laura (Russ) Bortnem, Gloryann (Dave) Aslin, brothers-in-law Dale (Alice) Kenzie and Bob (Janis) Kenzie, and his nieces and nephews. Ken was a retired member of the Sarnia Police Department, a longtime member of the New Horizons Community Church and a volunteer at the Sarnia Figure Skating Club. Like his grandfather, Ken enjoyed woodworking. He loved designing and building furniture and won several ribbons at the Woodstock Wood Show. Dad’s Parkinson’s ended his woodworking days, but he readily shared stories and his photo book. He loved visiting with others. The highlight of his week was meeting early on Friday mornings for Bible study and fellowship with his small group. Special thanks to the staff at both Vision Rest Home and Nursing Home (whom Dad affectionately referred to as his angels), the Seating Team and others at Pathways, Dr. Mandar Jog and his incredible team at LHSC for providing kind care, support and compassion. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Friday, September 8, 2017, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday, September 9, 2017, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to New Horizons Community Church, Vision Nursing Home, Movement Disorders Program at LHSC, or Sarnia-Lambton Rebound (cheques only at the funeral home please).
