Gearing up for a celebration of volunteerism

Tickets on sale now for April 15 Mackenzie Volunteer Prize event at Victoria Hall in Petrolia

Lambton Shield and the sponsors of the inaugural Mackenzie Volunteer Prize are getting ready to celebrate what it means to give of the time, energy and enthusiasm displayed by so many of our friends and neighbours in our community.

The Mackenzie Volunteer Prize event, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Victoria Hall in Petrolia, will showcase some 60 nominees.

Five finalists, one in each volunteer category, will each receive $200 as a prize and one of the finalists will receive $2,000, to be donated to the organization for which they volunteer.

All prizes will be announced at the April 15 event, which is sponsored by Bluewater Power, NOVA Chemicals, Storyboard Solutions, Blackburn Radio and Victoria Playhouse Petrolia.

Nominations for the Mackenzie Volunteer Prize closed as of 6 p.m. on March 31, said J.D. Booth, Publisher/Editor of the Lambton Shield.

“We are absolutely delighted with the quality of the nominations received for the very first Mackenzie Volunteer Prize,” said Booth. “As we get ready for the April 15 event itself, we know this is going to be a night of celebration, inspiration and recognition for our community.”

In addition to the prizes being awarded, attendees will be entertained by the storytelling skills of Kevin McGlade. The entire awards evening is being produced by David Hogan, co-artistic director of Victoria Playhouse Petrolia.
