Getting ready for Detroit auto show

Lambton Shield is at press preview days for 2018 North American International Auto Show

The 2018 North American International Auto Show begins this Saturday, but journalists from around the world are getting a chance to check out all that's new ahead of the public show. The event is held at Cobo Center in downtown Detroit.

Many residents of Sarnia-Lambton have fond memories of attending what is now the North American International Auto Show—aka “Detroit auto show” although that name disappeared several years ago with a rebranding of the event by the Detroit Auto Dealers Association.

This week—beginning today (Monday, January 15)—an estimated 5,000 journalists from around the world (including Sarnia, of course) will be getting not only a “sneak peek” but hearing from automakers who specifically target Detroit as being the place they announce changes to existing vehicles or brand new models.

We’ll be bringing highlights to you ahead of the public show, which starts this Saturday, January 20.

On Monday morning, the North American Car, Truck and Utility of the Year awards organizers, made up of about 60 journalists from Canada and the U.S., announced the top winners in each category.

For the Car category, the 2018 Honda Accord was selected. Volvo’s XC60 won in the Utility category, and the Lincoln Navigator came out on top for North American Truck of the Year.

Here’s a video that gives you the details on the finalists for each award category:
