An exciting new Granfondo welcoming cyclists to Lambton County’ will start and finish along the shores of Lake Huron in Sarnia’s beautiful Mike Weir Park on August 6, 2017.
Bluewater International Granfondo is part personal challenge and part serious competition with riders having three routes from which to choose.
Last year’s event resulted in $30,000 being donated to create a Palliative Nurses Education Fund.
This year’s event will support continued palliative education, including support for a two-day conference in Lambton County where participants will hear from world-renowned speakers in the field of palliative care.
The event will not be timed from start to finish as in traditional racing formats but instead will have timed sections.
Each route will have its own start time specifically designed to avoid “mass start anxiety” and allow riders of all routes to be able to finish within a reasonable time of each other.
This structure allows for the focus to be about enjoyment while allowing a rider’s competitive juices to flow during the timed sections. It also allows for regrouping with friends in between the timed sections or riding at an individual’s own comfortable pace.
At the finish those involved will be able to relax to live music while enjoying a well-deserved hot meal and a non-alcoholic beverage followed by an optional refreshing swim in Lake Huron.
Whether someone is looking to experience the enjoyment of riding on quiet country roads or through thriving fruit orchards or challenge themselves on the rolling hills of Arkona, there’s something for all at the new Granfondo.
