After much collecting, stacking and sorting, members of the Rotary Club of Bluewaterland are ready for the club’s 14th annual used book sale.
This year, there are more than 27,000 books filling 1,200 banana boxes for sale at Bayside Centre from Friday, January 12 until Sunday, January 14.
The fundraiser typically draws in at least $10,000 which goes towards the club’s numerous community projects.
The club receives book donations throughout the year and members take time to sort them in anticipation of the fundraiser. Donations include a bagful here and there or large donations from estates and the public library.
At the book sale, paperbacks go for $1 and hardcovers are $2. On Sunday, a bagful of reading material is just $5.
The sale begins on Friday at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m. Doors open again on Saturday at 9 a.m. and continues to 4:30 p.m. On Sunday, books will be sold from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.Patrons should use the mall’s George Street entrance.
In a normal year, nearly all the books are sold and any left behind are donated to other charitable causes.
