Helping nurture the ‘next generation’ of scientists

Peter Smith, retired as a nuclear engineer, continues to volunteer in area schools and for the upcoming Lambton County Science Fair

Peter Smith is a retired engineer who keeps busy organizing initiatives intended to nurture the next generation of scientists.

Peter Smith may be retired as a nuclear engineer, but he’s keeping himself busy helping to encourage young people who may be interested in science as a career.

With that in mind, Smith is on a committee that is organizing the Lambton County Science Fair, an event that will take place at the Lambton College Event Centre starting Friday, April 13 and running through the morning of Saturday, April 14, with the awards ceremony taking place at 1 p.m.

Organized by a group of educators from both area school boards, the Science Fair is growing in stature, says Smith, who is also involved in an area “Adopt a Scientist” program, the common theme being to encourage students to pursue science as a career.

Smith is also working on an upcoming “Bridge Builder” competition that will take place in March, which is Engineering Month.

Enjoy our conversation with Smith and feel free to visit the Lambton County Science Fair website for further details on how to get involved.

Smith also welcomes anyone with an interest in the Science Fair or the “Adopt a Scientist” program to contact him by email:¬†[email protected].
