Highway 402 closed after 11-vehicle crash east of Nauvoo Road

OPP urging motorists to stay out of area as whiteout conditions, snow squalls persist

Thursday was a good day NOT to be travelling on Highway 402 between London and Sarnia.

Indeed, the Ontario Provincial Police closed much of the highway in the afternoon, the result of snow and blowing snow and a combination of motor vehicle collisions.

A reported 11-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of the highway east of Nauvoo Road was part of the mayhem. Air ambulances had been reported dispatched to the scene of the pileup.

As a result the 402 was closed westbound from Forest Road to Highway 401, with eastbound lanes closed from Forest Road to Hicklory Dr.

Reports of snow squalls off Lake Huron resulted in poor visibility and whiteout conditions.

OPP are advising motorists to stay out of affected areas and Environment Canada has a snow squall warning in effect for areas of north and east Lambton County, with conditions expected to continue in the early overnight hours of Friday.
