Playoff showdown for Lambton County rivalry set to begin Thursday

By Dan McCaffery

The Sarnia Legionnaires and Lambton Shores Predators face off Thursday night (March 1) in what most observers think will be a hotly contested playoff series.

The Legionnaires, who finished first in the Western Ontario Hockey Conference, could have their hands full against the Predators, who have been the hottest team in the league for weeks now.

In fact, Lambton Shores has won eight of its last 10, including wins over all the top clubs.

Making matters more interesting is the fact that neither team has been able to beat the other on home ice this year. Sarnia won all three games in Forest and lost all three played in the Brock Street Barn.

Sarnia has a more experienced team and home-ice advantage, should the best-of-seven affair go the limit.

Kyle Washer will get the start in net for the Legionnaires, while Brandon Campbell will be between the pipes for Lambton Shores.

Game time is 7:10 p.m.

Game Two goes Saturday night in Forest, with the third contest set for Sunday evening in Sarnia.
