Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery has busy September planned

Several captivating events are on the schedule as we enter fall season

The Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery, the downtown Sarnia showcase that is operated by Lambton County, has a number of events laid out for the month of September, including several that are held on a weekly basis.

One of the first is a free guided tour of the facility that takes place Saturday (Sept. 9, 2017), from 1:30 pm. to 2:15 p.m., featuring the current exhibition, Witness – Canadian Art of the First World War and Lambton At War! Each tour has been uniquely created to suit the particular flair of each docent, which include music, poetry, storytelling and more. Registration required. Free, give what you can.

On Sunday, September 10, and every week throughout the month, the gallery hosts “Family Sunday.”

The events are chance to engage, discover and create, from 1 p.m. to 3 pm. While the event is free, there is a “suggested material donation” of $5 per family. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

This weekly event, held every Sunday at 1:45 p.m., is a FREE 15 minute drop-in tour of the current exhibition, Witness – Canadian Art of the First World War and Lambton At War! Each tour has been uniquely created to suit the particular flair of each docent, which include music, poetry, storytelling and more. Free, give what you can.

Witness My Creation at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery

Witness My Creation: Retouched – Enjoy the company of friends while you partake in our adult art classes, developed with a series of historic trends in mind. Take your historic photos and bring them into living colour! Artist Riley Shortt will teach you the art of colourizing historic black and white photos. Participants are encouraged to bring their own black and white photo (please bring the image on a USB as a JPEG or TIFF file) or you can use a historic photo provided by the gallery. Complimentary wine. Material included. Registration required. Spaces are limited.

Lambton at War Talk with Alec Moore – This presentation will explore the impact of the Great War on Lambton County from the frontlines with the 70th and 149th battalions, to the tireless efforts on the home front. Alec Moore is the Digital Curator at the Lambton Heritage Museum. FREE. Give what you can. Spaces are limited.

Art & Ideas Talk at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery

October 5, 2017, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Fear and Panic in Human History with Dr. Jonathan Vance – Explore why we tend to panic in some situations but not others, and how irrational behaviour has been manipulated by the unscrupulous. History tells us that fear is not a bad thing, so long as we don’t fear the wrong things.
