Lambton College’s world championship Firefit team is bringing its namesake challenge to Sarnia. After years of travelling across the country to compete across the Scott Firefit circuit, Lambton College is hosting the 2018 Western Ontario Regional Scott Firefit Championships at the College’s main campus on the weekend of June 22 – 24.
In addition to hosting world champions such as Lambton College Alumni and Oakville firefighter Ian Van Reenen, and Amber Bowman, a trainer on the Dr. Oz TV show, the event is also set to welcome individual and team competitors from across the province.
The free weekend event is open to the community and will feature hands-on activities for the kids and adults alike, including food trucks, fire-related vendors, and a mini replica course for kids.
The fun-filled event will also kick off with a Corporate Relay Challenge, scheduled to take place on Friday, June 22, which is open to teams of three to five individuals. Registered teams will compete in a scaled-down version of the Scott Firefit challenge, simulating tasks such as stair climbs, hose hoist from the top of the tower, forcible entries, and victim rescues. The cost is $250 per team, and proceeds will go towards the establishment of a Pre-Service Fire Scholarship dedicated to former student Charlotte Oriet, who lost her life earlier this year in a vehicle accident.
