Lambton County Council meeting highlights

At its regular meeting on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, Lambton County Council:

  • Heard a presentation from representatives of the Pillar Nonprofit Network, outlining the scope of Lambton County Library’s new “Strategic Opportunities Plan” which invites members of the public to redefine services at their community libraries.
  • Heard a presentation from the Sarnia/Lambton Chatham-Kent Transportation Working Group regarding initiatives being explored to improve county-wide service delivery supported by the Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network.
  • Asked staff to investigate when the Ministry of Transportation plans to raise posted speed limits along the westbound Highway 402 approach to the Blue Water Bridge.
  • Directed staff to organize a public meeting regarding an International Joint Commission study which recommends a number of steps to address declining water levels in Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Staff will also contact associated organizations to develop a regional strategy on behalf of southwestern Ontario.
  • Endorsed a resolution from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities urging the federal government to affirm a commitment to developing national energy policies that support and expand the energy value chain industry and address the potential constraints of skilled labour shortages and cost competitiveness.
  • Granted the Lambton Community Health Study Board $11,000 for the development of a detailed business plan in order to secure funding commitments to implement Phase 3 of the Lambton Community Health Study.
  • Received a report from staff outlining planned upgrades to the Council Chambers, expected to cost $50,000.
  • Directed staff to proceed with a service review of the Housing Services Department.
  • Congratulated the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery, which saw more than 2,300 visitors over the ArtWalk weekend and Lambton County Library, which e-registered over 500 new patrons.
  • Noted that June 19 committee meetings, including an update meeting of the County of Lambton Community Development Corporation, will be held at the UWO Research Park, Sarnia-Lambton Campus.
  • Noted that County Council will next meet Wednesday, July 3 at 1:15 p.m.
