Proof of his popularity on campus and in and around the Sarnia-Lambton community, the Lambton Lion mascot naming contest received more than 115 name suggestions over the past week via email, Facebook and Twitter for Lambton College’s own king of the jungle.
A Lambton College selection committee was organized to collect name submissions from both the college and the community. After a vigorous discussion today, the committee pared the list of submissions down to three (3) top picks which will now be open for voting.
In no established order, they are:
Roary II – A decedent of the original Lambton College mascot circa 1970’s, Roary II is the second coming king of the Lambton College jungle. With his updated look, style and game, he’s sure to inspire long-standing Lambton passion throughout his pride.
Jack – The namesake of John “Radical Jack” Lambton, Jack the Lion finds his life story steeped in history in Lambton College and the greater Sarnia-Lambton region. Not only does he know where he comes from, he also knows where he’s going and with his passion for honour and justice, this noble beast is sure to inspire!
Pounce – A shining example of animal instinct only found inside a lion, Pounce is all cat in the gym, in the lounge or in the office. Tame and playful now, he can turn that fearsome inner-hunter on at a moment’s notice and you wouldn’t know what hit you. Pounce is one cat you’d want in your corner!
An honourable mention was also chosen for “King Moonracer” for being the most creative entry.
Voting is now open at www.facebook.com/lambton.lion and will remain open until Thursday, November 8 at noon.
The new name will be unveiled at the Lambton College Open House scheduled on Saturday, November 10 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
