Lawrence House programs get administrative help from city

19 Jan 2012 - Lawrence House - Bob McCarthyAn art education program at the Lawrence House Centre for Arts is getting help in the form of administrative services from the city of Sarnia.

Following a reconstitution of the board of directors at Lawrence House, the plan, worked out between the previous board and the city, is taking effect.

The current art instructor, Hazel Rogers, will continue in her role in the Art Goes to School program, which is one of the most popular programs at Lawrence House and which pays for itself through fees.

Registration for the program and the payment of fees will be done at Sarnia City Hall.

The loss of an Ontario Arts Council grant last year had resulted in a financial crisis and a $40,000 debt. A $50,000 gift from Judith and Norman Alix rescued the centre from demise.

Officials have said the centre’s First Friday art exhibitions will continue.
