Local athlete wins Guelph Lake Triathlon, coming to Bright’s Grove in July

Mark Linseman won the Guelph Lake Triathlon on Sunday, June 19.

Linseman, 26, a graduate of Sarnia St. Pat’s and now living in Guelph, has been a regular on the Ontario triathlon circuit. He completed the Olympic distance triathlon featuring a 1500 meter swim, 40 km bike ride and 10 km run in a personal best time of 2 hours, 1 minute and 24 seconds.

Close to 500 athletes completed the triathlon under clear skies and ideal conditions.

Other local triathletes included Rob Cairns who finished 3rd in the 60-64 age group in a time of 2 hr. 42 minutes and Ken Walker finishing 22nd in the 50-54 age group in 2 hr. 47 minutes. Ian Campbell competed in the Sprint triathlon on Saturday, finishing 5th in the 55-59 age group in 1hr. 20 minutes.

Linseman will be looking for his first victory in Sarnia’s Bluewater Triathlon and Duathlon on Saturday, July 23 in Brights Grove. The event will feature a sprint triathlon for the first time, with the Ironkid Triathlon taking place the following day on July 24.
