Local Facebook group looks back to days gone by in Sarnia area

A local Facebook group is taking a long stroll down memory lane with more than 2,800 members so far.

Titled "Do You Remember . . . Places that No Longer Exist in Sarnia", the group can be found at: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_9596211314.

Among the reminiscences are photos such as the one featured–of the Imperial Oil docks with a ship being loaded.

    remember the Cosy Cove located where Ontario St & Wellington St meet at Mitton St. They has the old juke boxes. Behind the restaurant was ED’S Taxi who rented table & chairs for weddings etc., sold gas, & ice by the 25 or 50 LB block. At Mitton & Wellington South West corner was Poles Drug store & down Mitton from there was Watson Cycle & Sport store.
    At one time the farmers market was down town somewhere around Christina St & maybe Cromwell then it moved to Ontario & Proctor Sts. At one time on Sat mornings young children could go the the library & have stories read to them I think the reader was Miss Knowles. Good memories

    i remember running on the big wooden flyweel at the old salt plantfoot of maxwell,and playing tag on the old boom logs by the old freigt sheds across from sarnia elevator.good days around1940
