Local historian and author getting set to mark Canada’s 150th in unique form

Daily video series begins Feb. 1 on Lambton Shield

Retired school teacher and avid historian/author Bob McCarthy is undertaking his own celebratory project for Canada's 150th anniversary this year.

Canada is celebrating its 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017 and while many have devised their own way of marking the occasion, as an historian and author who loves to tell stories about local people, places and events, I wanted to find some way to recognize this anniversary and share it with others.

I’m fortunate to have lived all of my life (so far) in Ontario and I wanted to show my appreciation at having been born in this wonderful country.

With other friends, I have gathered together 150 stories about the heritage of Lambton County and through a series of videos, would like to share them with the audience of Lambton Shield.

We will be sharing one each day, from February 1 to June 30, a total of 150 days, at which time I and many others will be able to say “Happy Birthday Canada.”
