Local holiday R.I.D.E. programs said to be highly successful in spite of jump in drivers caught drinking

Lambton OPP wrapped up its 2012 Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) initiative on January 2, 2013 with an increase in the number of drivers caught drinking while behind the wheel.

Police say there were 12 drivers who at least temporarily lost their privilege to drive a motor vehicle, up from just 8 a year ago.

The campaign, which began November 24, 2012, was said to be highly visible and successful as Lambton OPP officers conducted 150 R.I.D.E. spot-checks at various locations throughout Lambton County. In 2012, overall there were a total of 692 R.I.D.E. programs conducted by Lambton OPP.
