Local McDonald’s launches Loonies for Lunches program with Inn of the Good Shepherd

Local McDonald's operators Colleen and Peter Buckley, along with Ronald McDonald himself, were at the restaurant on London Rd. today (Thursday, August 23) to cut the ribbon on the newly renovated facility as well as launch the area's Loonies for Lunches program.

For a one dollar contribution, the funds go toward helping provide juice boxes and snacks that will be distributed to needy families, said Myles Vanni, executive director of the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

Vanni thanked the Buckleys for their continued support of the program at the opening ceremony.

Vanni told LambtonShield.com he is also enthusiastic about the continuation of a backpack program that fills a gap left by cutbacks in a provincial program that gave needy families an allowance for buying school supplies.

"At one point, we were preparing about 65 backpacks," said Vanni. "Last year it was more than 600 and that number will likely increase this year."
