Marilyn Gladu ‘celebrates’ Private Member’s Bill becoming law

Sarnia-Lambton MP says Royal Assent was great Christmas present for Canadians looking for consistent palliative care

It was an early Christmas gift for Sarnia-Lambton Member of Parliament Marilyn Gladu with the ceremony on Tuesday (Dec. 12, 2017) that enacted her Private Member’s Bill C-277, also known as the “Framework on Palliative Care in Canada Act,” becoming law.

The final action that turned the proposed legislation into law came with the Royal Assent that takes place in the Senate Chambers.

The federal government must now come up with a cohesive national plan that will bridge provincial action with the effect of giving people who are dying the option of quality “end-of-life” care.

Gladu said the bill creates that framework.

She also explained to Lambton Shield the process that took place in order to turn a vision into reality.
