Sarnia Police say the body of a 43-year-old man, who will not be identified at the request of his family, was recovered Tuesday morning not far from where he went missing on Sunday.
A pleasure boater made the discovery just after 10 a.m. and an OPP marine unit brought the body to shore.
An autopsy will be done, although police say no foul play is suspected. The man apparently jumped into the water in the vicinity of the Sarnia Yacht Club in an attempt to recover a hat that blew into the water. He was not wearing a life jacket.
Sarnia Police media relations officer Heather Emmons said assistance provided by various area authorities, including the OPP, Coast Guard officers from the U.S. and Canada, as well as officers from the St. Clair County Sheriff's department and fire departments from Sarnia and Pont Edward were greatly appreciated.
