Mississagi, one of the first lake freighters of the season, goes down St. Clair River

Traffic coming to and from Lake Huron is another sign of warmer weather

Another sure sign of spring is seeing the resumption of lake freighter traffic from Lake Huron into the St. Clair River and under the Blue Water Bridge.

One such scene played out Wednesday afternoon with the transit of the Mississagi, a self-discharging bulk carrier that was headed downstream, approaching the Blue Water Bridge at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Mississagi was said to be en route to Monroe, Mich.

The vessel was built in 1943 and has Port Dover as its home port.
