Despite setbacks in all extra-curricular activities, Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School went ahead with a celebration of student academic excellence on Thursday with its annual Junior Academic Awards Assembly.
During this assembly silver awards were given to those students who maintained an average of 80%- 84.9% last year. Students maintaining 85% or better received a gold award and Junior Honour Society kudos went to those who maintained more than 85% throughout their high school career.
There were also a number of individual awards given including:
Student Legislature General Proficiency Awards, which is awarded to the student with the highest average in each grade, went to Geoffrey Spielman in grade 9, Anastasyia Vinokurtseva in grade 10, and Joshua Veenkamp in grade 11.
WorleyParsons Engineering Award for the student with the highest combined average in grade 11, university level math, chemistry, and physics went to Tanishq Suryavanshi.
Joe Lobo WorleyParsons Educational Award which goes to the student with the highest combined average in grade 10 math and science was awarded to Anastasyia Vinokurtseva.
Grade 11 University Math Award also went to Anastasyia Vinokurtseva.
French Core Language Award was awarded to Rebecca Eizenga.
French Immersion Award was awarded to both Yasmeen Ibrahim and Michelle Wong.
Ken Manuel Memorial History Award for a student with high standing in a Grade 10 history course went to Kristen Nikel.
J.D Murray Award which is awarded to a student for outstanding achievement in Geography went to Reem Amayem.
Year 1 Business Studies Award was awarded to Chase Wood.
Year 2 Business Studies Award was awarded to Kelsey Crawford.
Computer Studies Award went to Carly Pearson.
Finally, the Llewellyn Falla Business Studies and Financial Investing Award ,which is dedicated to Llew Falla who tragically passed away two years ago, went to Joshua Veenkamp who excelled in Grade 11 Business Studies and Financial Investing.
