Olympic bronze medalist Derek Drouin receives hometown hero’s welcome

The hometown crowd did Derek Drouin proud.

Wednesday's parade through Corunna, where Drouin grew up, drew hundreds of cheering citizens, all shouting their congratulations to the high jumper who began competing in the sport at St. Patrick's high School in grade 9.

According to correspondent Ron Skreptak, people started lining up the sides of Lyndock at least an hour before the parade was scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. "As Derek passed the crowd there was a loud round of applause from spectators," said Skreptak, who also chairs the Corunna Community Policing Committee.

A few hundred people gathered at Antonio's Sports Bar where Drouin, who returns to school in Indiana next week, signed autographs.
