Update: Police confirm foul play in Walpole Island investigation, suspect taken into custody

Police said yesterday that at the conclusion of a post mortem held in London Jun. 23, foul play is confirmed in the death of 50-year-old Walpole Island resident, Clifford Lincoln Riley.

Police immediately treated his death as a homicide and began an investigation.

Shortly after police released their findings yesterday, a Walpole Island man was taken into custody and is facing a charge of Second Degree Murder in the death of Riley.

The suspect was arrested without incident on Jun. 23.

Naanan Mackenzie Williams, 20, from Walpole Island has been remanded into custody facing a charge of Second Degree Murder in the death of 50 year old Clifford Lincoln RILEY. The accused will reappear in Sarnia court at 10:30am on Monday, June 25, 2012.

Shortly before 6 a.m. on Jun. 22, Walpole Island Police were called to River Road, north of Firehall Road, regarding a body lying on the edge of the roadway. Police arrived to find a male person deceased at the scene.

The provincial Crime Unit under the direction of Acting Detective Inspector Brad Nunn of the Criminal Investigation Branch and Walpole Island Police continue to work together in this matter and appreciate any assistance members of the public may be able to provide.

The scene at River Road North between Firehall Road and Austin Road has been reopened to traffic.
