Police say several arrests mark first weekend in December

Sarnia Police Service officers say several arrests marked the first weekend in December, including one involving a man wanted on breach of probation who was allegedly caught with drugs, and a man found slumped over the steering wheel of his car (later charged with being over the legal limit).

In the first case, which began the evening of Nov. 30, the individual charged is being held for bail.

The driver alleged to be impaired, who was discovered at about 5:20 a.m. on Dec. 1, was released on a Promise to Appear.

Also on Dec. 1, around 6 p.m., an altercation occurred between two females at a business in the area of Ontario and East Streets included a 20-yearold London woman punching a 29-year-old Brampton woman several times in the face.  Police say a can of pepper spray was then produced by the 20 year old and she sprayed her assailant.

The punching stopped when management stepped in to break things up.  First aid was administered to the 29 year old and she was taken to hospital.  The pepper spray was turned over to police.  The London woman faces two charges, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Assault with a Weapon.   She was later released and will appear in court in January.  The Brampton woman faces three charges; Assault and two counts of Utter Threats to Cause Death.  She too was released with a future court date.

At the same time, a verbal dispute occurred at a home in the 900 block of Devine Street between a 51-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman, both from Sarnia.  Beer was being consumed by the man so the woman left the house to cool off.

Around 10 p.m., she returned and asked the man, who was still there, to leave.  When he refused she called police.  While the man left prior to the arrival of police, he was located near Indian Road.  Police discovered he was on Probation and one of his conditions was not to consume any alcohol.  He was arrested around 10:30 p.m. and now faces two charges of Breach of Probation. He was held for bail.

Also on December 1, around 11:45 p.m., officers were sent to Front Street in the downtown core regarding an intoxicated man.  Police found a 21-year-old Sarnia man staggering around.  While he said he just wanted to “sleep it off,” police described the man as somewhat belligerent.  Several attempts were made to locate a place for the man to go to, however, this proved unsuccessful so he was taken to headquarters and provided a place to “sleep it off.”

During the arrest procedure, over two grams of marijuana was found in his possession.  The Woodsleigh, Ontario ,man was later released on a Promise to Appear.  He is charged with Possession of Marijuana and also issued a Provincial Offence Notice for Being Intoxicated in a Public Place.
