Police say zero tolerance policy for courthouse screening has resulted in confiscation

Sarnia Police say a number of items detected since the activation of equipment at the Sarnia Courthouse have been seized.

People carrying Items considered to be “sharps” or “weapons” will first be asked to remove the object from the courthouse and place it in their vehicle or deposit the object in a secure receptacle for disposal.

These items would include knives as well as seemingly harmless items such as a nail file but also knitting needles or similar sharp objects.

Officers are not authorized to hold any items for safekeeping purposes, say police.
