The group started the initial climb on February 13, starting with a 3.5 hour hike to Old Moses Camp. The following day, the group hiked to Shipton camp, where they would rest one night before doing an acclimatization climb and heading for the summit at 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 16.
Summit day began with a quick breakfast before heading out with mitts, coats and headlamps on. The climb was very chilly but slowly and steadily, the entire team made it to the top of Lenana Peak with an elevation of 4,985 meters.
After making their way down the mountain and enjoying a celebratory breakfast, Project Kenya continued back down to Old Moses Camp (Camp 1), finishing the day after 14 hours of hiking. Everyone was happy with the success of the climb and were even happier to be off the mountain.
The group is currently enjoying their time at Hell's Gate National Park and will be back in Sarnia by Friday evening.
