The Sarnia Legionnaires sent the message at Thursday night’s game that violence against women has to stop. Councillor Brian White was in attendance along with members of the committee for Walk A Mile In Her Shoes, the annual walk to raise awareness for violence against women.
Walk A Mile In Her Shoes is a playful opportunity for men to raise awareness in their community about the serious causes, effects and remediations involving men’s sexualized violence against women. Men wear women’s high heels and, literally, walk a mile in their shoes.
Councillor White says teaming up with the Sarnia Legionnaires is great because it gives young people exposure to a problem that definitely needs to be addressed.
The walk has been going on since 2001 all over the world and White says with the headlines that have been in the news lately, the timing could not be better for this event and the awareness it raises.
Walk A Mile In Her Shoes is set for April 7 at 11 a.m. at Lambton Mall. Many local dignitaries will be there from politics to media, to sports celebrities. If you would like a sponsorship form in order to help the cause go to www.womensintervalhome.com and download the form.
