Sarnia police arrest local man for killing dog

Sarnia Police and Sarnia Humane Society were called to an address in the 200 block of South Vidal Street Thursday morning just after 10 a.m. regarding a disturbance. When they got there, police found a dead Husky dog which appears to have been beaten about the head. The dog is between 4-5 years old.

After a brief investigation, a 50-year-old man was arrested and is being held in custody until bail can be determined. Before going to police headquarters, he was taken to Bluewater Health by police for treatment of injuries he received during the original disturbance call. Police say it appears to have been a dispute between neighbours.

The Forensic Identification Branch attended the scene, a weapon was seized and the dog was taken away by the Humane Society and is being held their pending further investigation by police.

The accused was to appear in court today and faces three charges including Killing an Animal, Breach of Recognizance, and Weapons Dangerous to the Public Peace.
