Sarnia Police heading to area parking lots this Saturday

'Cops for Cans' event take place at Wal-Mart and Superstore for its sixth year of helping Inn of the Good Shepherd in non-perishable food drive

Sarnia Police are once again teaming up with the Inn of the Good Shepherd for the upcoming Christmas holiday season in hopes of making sure the Inn has enough food to provide for those in need this time of year.

The 6th annual “Cops for Cans” event takes place this Saturday, November 10. Officers and volunteers will be in front of Wal-Mart and in front of the Real Canadian Superstore (Murphy and London Road) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sarnia Police cruisers will be parked at both lots near the entrances to the stores with emergency lights activated so they will be easy to spot.  The goal is to fill the inside of the cruisers with non-perishable food that will go to the Inn of the Good Shepherd here in Sarnia.

There will also be prepackaged bags of non-perishable food that can be purchased in-store or you can bring or purchase your own non-perishable product.  All donated bags will go directly to the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

“We are excited to be hosting this event to help the Inn of the Good Shepherd provide for those in need at Christmas time,” said Constable Nelson Amaral of the Community Services Branch.

Since its inception, volunteer Sarnia Police officers have raised more than 28,000 pounds of food for those in need.
