Sarnia Sting back in the win column

Sting drown the Otters in game 2 of a 3 game weekend road tour

With three games on the road over the weekend, it was a harsh schedule for the Sarnia Sting and it did not start the way they wanted it to. But things turned around on Saturday night as the Sting, coming off a loss to the Niagara Ice Dogs and fired up. drove into Erie to face the Otters with one thought in mind: get that W.

Aidan Hughes, although he had not been getting much work behind the net as of late, proved he was more than capable of handling the job, steering away 29 of the 30 shots he faced.  Daniel Murphy would be in the Otters net and faced 35 shots by the swarming Sting but could only stop 31 of those shots.

True to Sting form they started hard getting the first goal of the game as Jordan Ernst would drive to the net and go stick side on Murphy to give the Sting a 1-0 lead.  The Otters would come back tying up the game on a powerplay goal by Gera Poddubnyi.

With the Game tied at one goal each, the second period would be one the Sting wanted to own and that they did.  Just 21 seconds into the period Adam Ruzicka would get his 28th goal of the season, thanks to a great set up by Michael Pezzetta.  The Sting were not done there as Cam Dineen would get the insurance goal on the powerplay.

The third period had Sarnia leading 3-1 and in fine shape for a road trip win.  To make sure of that win, Drake Rymsha would tap in the setup pass from Captain Jordan Kyrou on the powerplay to give the Sting a 4-1 road trip win and a huge confidence boost.

Aidan Hughes was stellar in net, robbing the Otters of what was sure to be a rebound goal.  Hughes would make the initial stop but the rebound popped right to an Otter attacker, Hughes would make the diving save to rob what surely would have been a tying goal in the second. The over 6,000 in attendance at the Erie Insurance Arena could not believe how Hughes had robbed them of a tie game.

Next up is a Sunday night game with the Hamilton Bulldogs in Hamilton, to wrap up this weekend’s road trip, then it is back to the Progressive Auto Sales Arena to face the London Knights on Saturday night.
