Sarnia Sting defeat Saginaw Spirit on Saturday

Win marks first shut-out of season for Justin Fazio

The Sarnia Sting defeated the Saginaw Spirit 6-0 on Saturday night to kick off their four game road trip. The win improved their record to 17-12-4-0 on the season.

Justin Fazio stood tall in his 100th career game, turning aside all 32 shots faced for his first shutout of the season. The shutout spoiled the Spirit’s annual Teddy Bear Toss, as the bears had to come onto the ice with 6:16 remaining in the game. Evan Cormier stopped 21 of 27 shots faced in the loss.

Anthony Salinitri got the Sting off and running early in this one, opening the scoring 1:45 into the game. Jaden Lindo was credited with the lone assist. Salinitri would follow it up with his second of the game just 5 minutes later to extend the lead to 2-0. Jeff King and Jordan Kyrou assisted on the play.

Ryan McGregor would make it 3-0 at 13:31 in the first, with the assists going to Kevin Spinozzi and Jacob Stos. Franco Sproviero scored the lone goal in the 2nd period, tipping in a Connor Schlichting shot at 2:39. Jordan Kyrou recorded the secondary assist on the goal.

Just 1:21 into the third period, Jordan Kyrou would make it a 5-0 game for the Sting off a nice pass from Brady Hinz. Franco Sproviero was credited with the second assist on the play. Less than a minute later Anthony Salinitri would make it 6-0 while finishing off the hat-trick. Jaden Lindo and Louis Latta assisted on the goal.

  • Anthony Salinitri recorded his second hat-trick of the season, and is now up to 16 goals on the year. He currently leads the league in opening goals.
