Sarnia Sting lose to Soo Greyhounds

Team still remains in 8th spot with 5 point lead over Saginaw Spirit

The Sarnia Sting came up just short on Friday night, falling to the Soo Greyhounds by a score of 6-5. The loss brings the Sting record to 26-26-5-1, and remain in the 8th spot in the Western Conference with a 5 point lead over the Saginaw Spirit. The Sting were outshot 45-27 in the loss.

Justin Fazio got the start for the Sting, turning aside 15 of the 20 shots he faced before being replaced by Aidan Hughes following the 5th goal against. Hughes played well in relief, turning aside 24 of the 25 shots he faced, but was ultimately charged with the loss in the game. Matthew Villalta got the nod for the Greyhounds, turning aside 22 of the 27 shots he faced in the win.

Following a series of penalties between both teams in the 1st period, the Sting went on a 4 on 3 advantage and capitalized, as Jeff King found Drake Rymsha back door at 5:28 for his 25th goal of the season. Jordan Kyrou had the secondary assist on the play, extending his point streak to 22 games.

At 12:44, Noah Carroll tied the game for the Greyhounds with his 5th goal of the season. Just 1:10 after the equalizer, Tim Gettinger got a shot past Fazio five-hole for his 27th goal of the season to give the Greyhounds the 2-1 lead.

Anthony Salinitri tied the game at 2 for the Sting at 17:08, when Jaden Lindo got in behind two defenceman to feed Salinitri who fired his 21st goal top corner. Theo Calvas was credited with the secondary assist on the play.

With 31 seconds remaining in the 1st period, Hayden Verbeek regained the Greyhounds lead with his 11th of the season, beating Fazio from the left faceoff circle to make it a 3-2 game.

At 8:06 of the 2nd period, Franco Sproviero squared the game at 3 goals a piece while short handed when he found a deflected puck off a post to bury his 13th goal of the season. Jeff King and Ryan McGregor were credited with the assists on the goal.

The Greyhounds responded quickly, however, when Mac Hollowell scored his 2nd goal of the season to make it a 4-3 game. Bobby MacIntyre gave the Greyhounds a 2 goal lead at 10:35 for his 23rd goal of the season to make it 5-3. Following the goal, Aidan Hughes would comeĀ in to relieve Justin Fazio in the Sting crease.

Jeff King scored his 10th goal of the season at 2:55 of the 3rd period, as he worked his way to the net from the blue line and sniped top corner to make it a 5-4 game. Troy Lajeunesse and Drake Rymsha assisted on the goal.

At 11:04, Boris Katchouk once again gave the Greyhounds a 2 goal lead, as he found the back of the net during a 5 on 3 man advantage for what was the eventual game winning goal.

Drake Rymsha scored his 2nd goal of the game at 17:49, tipping home a wrist shot from Jeff King on the power play for his 26th goal of the season. Jordan Ernst had the secondary assist on the play.
