The Sarnia Sting will take on the #1 ranked Erie Otters in the first round of the 2017 Playoffs. The series is a re-match of the 2015 first round when the Sting were eliminated by Connor McDavid and the Otters in five games.
In four contests this year, the Sting were 1-3-0-0 against their counterparts. The lone victory came on March 4th when the Sting skated away with a 5-3 win; ending the Otters full season run of not losing a game in regulation on home ice.
Sarnia’s Kevin Spinozzi, Jordan Kyrou (and Anthony Salinitri (PHI) all had a goal and an assist. Jaden Lindo and Drake Rymsha also found the back of the net. The big guns, Dylan Strome (ARI), Alex DeBrincat (CHI) and Taylor Raddysh (TBL) all scored for the Otters but Justin Fazio turned aside 45 of 48 to earn the 5-3 decision.
The series will get underway at the Erie Insurance Arena on Thursday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. Because of a scheduling conflict, the two teams have agreed to a 1-2-2-1-1 game format.
The Sting will host Game #2 of the series on Saturday, March 25th at 7:05 PM. Game #3 is slated for Monday, March 27th at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
