Sarnia Collegiate Institute & Technical School teacher Petra Ramos has been chosen as the recipient of the 2012 Embassy of Spain Scholarship by the Ontario Modern Language Teachers’ Association (OMLTA). Each candidate’s application letter and reference letters were carefully reviewed prior to the OMLTA arriving at a very difficult decision.
"It was particularly challenging this year since they received such a large number of applications," said Barb Young, president of District 10 of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation.
The scholarship is for a three-week course at a prestigious Spanish university during the month of July. The final decision of which program Ramos will attend will be based on her preference and program availability. The scholarship also includes course fees, accommodation, meals, medical coverage and some cultural activities. Although transportation is not covered, the OMLTA will contribute $500 towards the travel costs.
"Ms. Ramos's outstanding application clearly demonstrates her commitment to the teaching of Spanish in Ontario," according to Jimmy Steele, the Embassy of Spain Scholarship Liaison.
