While details are sketchy at best, the Sarnia Seaway Kiwanis Club, already a major financial backer of the Canatara Park Animal Farm, wants to add a rubber-wheel train to the equation.
At the moment, modified lawn tractors are used as rides for visitors to the park. The new train, which would be electric-operated and therefore more eco-friendly, would also be used in other city-sponsored events such as the Canada Day Parade, according to a brief being sent to Council.
The new equipment would replace horse-drawn equipment now used in Canatara Park events.
A public information session held on June 6 received favourable support for the idea.
In the meantime, however, questions related to the operation of the proposed train would come before council before a decision is made to support the initiative.
Paul Beaudet, the service club member responsible for the train committee, has said the plan would be for the ride to be operated on a pay-as-you-go basis.
