Seniors Cruise tradition will continue after appeal for help is answered

Lambton Elderly Outreach steps up, announcing that 40-year tradition will continue uninterrupted

When Bill Yurchuk, CEO of Lambton Elderly Outreach, heard that the Seniors Cruise, a tradition started by the late Peter Henderson and carried on for several years by Marni Thomas, was in jeopardy due to health issues, he began thinking about what could be done.

Within hours, Yurchuk had reached out to his contacts and met with Thomas late yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon to confirm she’d be fine with the organization he heads to take a leadership role.

Since then, members of the Golden K Club have also indicated a willingness to step forward to assist in continuing what will be the 40th event, which will take place on the last Monday in June.

Yurchuk said the owners of the Duc D’Orleans II are on board and have confirmed Monday, June 25 as the date of this year’s event.

Typically, seniors throughout the area are invited to take a short cruise on the Duc, which is docked just north of Sarnia City Hall.
